Ads Don’t Work Anymore. And You Know It

Would you watch a reel or a short video online knowing it’s an ad?
Probably not(unless it’s something you’re genuinely interested in.)

So why do you often find yourself stuck watching a scripted video that subtly pushes a brand?

Is it because the content was so cleverly wrapped around a hook you couldn’t ignore?

That’s what modern influencer marketing looks like. It’s evolved beyond a familiar face directly promoting a brand in an obvious “paid partnership setting”.

Now, it looks different. It’s a random stranger showing off their outfit of the day or someone refurbishing their old room. You come across it, and something about it naturally grabs your attention.

Why Ads Have Lost Their Credibility?

To put it simply: More than credibility, ads have lost authenticity.
Every product looks the same, feels the same, and is presented similarly.

That’s exactly why influencer marketing became so prominent (and is now being overtaken by niche influencers).

But Here’s What’s Interesting:

This shift in brand marketing has even got legacy brands like Coca-Cola, Adidas, and Nike shaking their boots. Something about the evolving preferences of today’s audience has leveled the playing field; whatever resonates gets chosen.

It’s no longer just about brand names.

The Best Marketing Doesn’t Look Like Marketing

Last month, I wanted to dye my hair. I already knew the brand. The color would work. It had credibility, quality, and visibility.

But I was still skeptical(until I saw real results.)

Luckily the brand I opted for had a curated list of videos on their page: The social proof.
I even found a video of a girl with the same hair type as mine. That’s what made my decision final and turned me into a returning customer who shares positive word-of-mouth.

Most brands miss this.

Discounts, quality, and attractive packaging are just part of the process.
Social proof is irreplaceable.

It multiplies, engages, and drives revenue because it doesn’t feel forced.

Will We Ever Reach a Point Where Traditional Ads Would Regain Popularity?

Considering the current dynamics of how we consume content. No.

Globally, nearly 80% of ad spend is now digital and continues to rise, while traditional formats continue to decline or, at best, stabilize. That alone tells you where your audience is engaging.

As per sources, user-generated content and creators are expected to generate more ad revenue than traditional media itself. Think about it for a second. A random creator with a phone camera can now outperform a million-dollar TV campaign.

This demonstrates the current state of traditional ad campaigns.

Long-form creator content on platforms like YouTube is now competing directly with television, delivering massive watch time.

So no, traditional ads won’t “come back” in the way we remember them. Because the future of advertising isn’t about visibility.

It’s about believability. It’s about connectivity.
